I just received word that Mel passed away this morning after battling stomach cancer for some time now. He lived in the Beaumont, Texas area. He was a great steel player, gentle soul and an inspiration to anyone that met him. Prayers go out to his family..rj

It's a sad day to loose Mel. We don't get to see him often, but he is a good player and a nice guy.
He will be missed.
His family will miss him most.
May he rest in peace......... |

This is sad news. Mel was a fellow fan of David Huff, of David and the Giants band. We had a nice visit and steel guitar discussion a few years ago after a David Huff concert. RIP Mel. _________________ Darvin Willhoite

Mel was a good christian man , a top notch steel
player .He was just like a brother to me , we jammed
together many times .
I was in Limelight Studio in Dickinson Tx, where he
recorded his CD '' IN THE LIMELIGHT ''. h e was a
smooth player. we would often exchange emails nearly

Very sad news to hear of Mel passing away. I will always remember the time we spent discussing steel guitar and the many players. Our last conversation was at Scotty's in St Louis last fall, and at the new venue near the airport. Mel was a true friend, and I will always remember him. Barbara and I send our sincere condolences to his family.
PS: Thank you Bob Gondesen for relaying this news to me so promptly. _________________ D-10 Mullen RP Telonics TCA-500a Combo Amp, Peavy Nashville 400s, 1000, session 400 limited, Nashville 112, Telonics VP, DD3 |

Wow, I really hate to hear this news about Mel. He was a class act for sure. A great steel guitarist, but an even greater person.
He will for certain be missed. Thoughts and prayers for those he left behind. |
