Yesterday at the Dallas Steel Guitar Jamboree, master luthier Mark Giles was inducted into the TSGA Hall Of Fame. As many will know on this forum, Mark has been making exquisite cabinets for pedal steels for many years. Mark's craftsmanship is of the very highest level. I know this as I picked up a (pre-ordered) beautiful deep blue tiger stripe maple D10 body for my Zum from him over this weekend.
Mark is an extremely modest and charming man, who takes his work very seriously. He suffered from a stroke a spell back, and has not made a 100% recovery, but thankfully is still capable of making his incredible steel guitar cabinets.
I would like to offer my congratulations to him on this wonderful and deserved award from the TSGA. _________________ Show Pro D10 - amber (8+6), MSA D10 Legend XL Signature - redburst (9+6), Sho-Bud Pro 111 Custom (8+6), Emmons black Push-Pull D10 (8+5), Zum D10 (8x8), Hudson pedal resonator. I have admired Mark's work for many years. All the way back to the many JCH cabinets he built for Jimmie Crawford. Being inducted into the TSGA Hall Of Fame is a great honor and Mark is very deserving! Congrats Mark! |

When I first talked to Mark about building steelseats he said, "You are gonna make mistakes.... You are good when you fix um where no one else can tell" and he flashed that Giles smile.
So I do not make a mistake with out saying "That's a Giles ....... IF I can fix it....... and I see that smile in my mind." and I tell him often.
He is a Great craftsman as many have said but beyond that a great guy. Before the presentation his family was setting at a table by the steelseat booth. Here is the photo his daughter took --

Congratulations again MR Mark
