I was wondering about the way to set the spit tuning. I have a extra rod on my (6) string lower. so when I lower a whole tone I can push the (b) pedal and bring it back to a half step. you all know with out the extra rod to tune that half step it won't come back right. My question is this ,Does the row of screw that are on some of the steel that is located behind the changer above the nylon tuners. one for each finger do they do the same thing as the extra rod. I hope I said what I wanted to. any info will be helpful thanks Jack

Yes, the split tuning rod does the same thing as the extra rod, if the split comes out flat without it.

I think Carter have a video piece on their website about how the split is set up and tuned -- take a look on there, it may help quite a bit.

Jack,

It is very simple and easy to do. It is nothing more than a piece of aluminum bar stock (polished) about 3/4" inch square and about as long as the changer axle. It is locate just to the right of the changer and bolted either to the neck or to the top of the guitar. 10 holes are drilled near the bottom of this bar hoizontally left to right close to the bottom of the stock. Then the holes are threaded (I believe 6-32, not sure).

Allen setscrews are then screwed into these holes so the threaded part faces each changer finger such that lowers are restricted depending on how far in the allen screw is adjusted clockwise, as viewed from the right end of the guitar.

The procedure for "splitting" is as follows:

1. Make sure the allen screw is backed out sufficiently so the changer finger does NOT make contact with it when it is lowered.

2. Engage the raise and adjust for correct pitch.

3. While holding the raise, engage the lower, and adjust the lower nylon tuner for correct "split" pitch.

4. Release the raise.

6. While holding the lower engaged, adjust the allen screw in until the correct lower pitch is correct.

Repeat the above until all three pitches are correct.

Good luck,

carl
