About to buy an old Peavey LTD next week. He says speaker is 1501 and it is clearly a BW. The question I have is the voice coil seems to not have aluminum dust cover like others I have seen. He says it is original and I believe him. Just wondered if there was a 1501 without aluminum cover. Amp has later model knobs as opposed to old style. I am getting it for 250$ He is an old steeler from tennessee and a really cool guy. Could tell just from phone call he knew a lot and was a good ole' guy. Looks real good. Will be going to check out soon. Anyone have any input on the speakers in these? |

It's probably a 1502. Not sure what speaker came with which amps when but I think Peavey sent LTD's out with 1502's for a while because I've seen many in that amp. I liked it a little bit more than the 1501 for the LTD. |

I had a 1501 that had a paper cap after an idiot punched a hole in the foil. Took a LITTLE bit of the highs off. But since I usually run highs and presence at about noon, I had plenty of knob to fix.
Great amp. _________________ 2 pedal steels, a lapStrat, and an 8-string Dobro (and 3 ukes)

If the speaker is a 1502 it will have a ribbed cone. FWIW I have an early "spider web" 1502 with an aluminum dust cap and a later super structure 1502 with a paper one.
If the speaker still has the little paper label near the terminals you could ID it that way. Not the easiest thing to do with it in the amp of course. |

From the picture I could read the words super structure very clearly. My guess is its a 1502 SS with paper cone. I have to schedule a day off next week to drive out to the country to see it, will know for sure then. Really exited to get this amp. I am crazy about my Session 400, just plug straight in an play. Gonna prolly leave the Session 400 at church and take the LTD for gigs as it is easier to get in and out of car/manage on stage and such. Will be great setup. I love these old big iron solid state amps! |

i think it was always a 1501 in ltds. if it's not the spider web speaker it was probably changed out to a 1502. a fiddle player friend used the paper cover 1502s in his nashville 400s. maybe slightly warmer sound. |

My LTD had a 1501 which i later changed out to an Eminence neo because of weight. LTD's are best steel amp Peavey made in my book. _________________ Henry Matthews

Do LTD's have exactly the same circuit as the original Session 400? |

the circuit is the same.
there may be a difference in sound due to the cabinet size. |
