I heard from Eric just this week and he hopes to be back in production with Tribotone this Summer.

Rick - I was in a similar situation recently and found a solution. Michael Hillman makes powder coated bars which are on a par with the Tribotones. Michael's a good guy to work with. I bought three (just in case) and I'm very happy with them. Here's a recent SGF thread on the subject.

Michael Hillman's bars are fantastic and he even makes one to match my steel Smile

In the interest of balance, if you wanted something even closer to the Tribotones though, you can get one of the TELONICS bars from the shop on the site below. Also a fantastic bar.

I just got some tone bars from Mr. Hillman. Nice product; outstanding fellow to do business with.

But, I'm curious: what you called TELONICS bars, offered at texassteelguitar.org, are called "Black Rajah" on that site. Are they the same as the old Black Rajah bars? Or are they just citing that as a reference?

i have seen the Telonics bars at TSGA - they are nice, but you can only get them in pedal steel sizes unfortunately.

That's some great news, Andy! I hope things fall in to place for him to get to making bars again.

That would be fantastic! It's pretty bad when I feel more comfortable taking one of my vintage Black Raja bars to a gig rather than my Tribotone

I think they are just using it as a reference as the bar isn't tapered like the original BR bar and neither the TELONICS or the Tribotone are Bakelite - as far as I know they are some sot of teflon coated material.

I'd say they are more similar to each other than to a vintage BR.

Having said that, I onloy have person experience with the TELONICS and the Michael Hillman bars (Michael - you need a snappy name for your bar I reckon).

Tribo-Tone is Delrin and filled with some metal as a core to add weight. Delrin is a very dense form of plastic. Looks like the other bar is too.

Thanks. The Telonics definitely looks more like the Tribotone than a Black Rajah.

I have both a Tribotone and a Black Rajah (mine's about 10 years old - don't know if that counts as "original"). The Black Rajah appears to have a lead core, and the coating is clearly a different material than the Tribotone.

I like them both; the Tribotone's surface seems a bit tougher, perhaps more durable.
