Hey All, I've been attempting to set up an early Zum, built in 1977. I've noticed that on the 7th string raise f# to g# that it appears that the raise finger is hitting a stop point on the pickup mounting plate, and than forces the lower finger to activate, which obviously makes a full tone raise impossible. This Zum has 3 pickup adjustment screws built into the neck, in addition to th 4 regular mounting/adjustment screws. Does any one have the slightest idea why would be? or am I barking up the wrong tree?

I would hack a piece out of the offending plate to let the changer move as far as necessary. |

Thanks for the help, I just removed the pickup and the mounting plate. I ground down the edge a little less than an 1/8", filed it smooth. Works fine now. I was just surprised no one had ran into this on this guitar before. I guess because the plate didn't run the full distance of the changer fingers, the outside 2 or 3 weren't affected, only the middle fingers were. Problem solved. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

I'm glad you solved the problem, but, I think I would've contacted Bruce about the problem first. I honestly think something went awry with that changer and shouldn't have needed you altering it that way. You might wind up with other problems, down the road. Just saying, you know.
I'm sorry, I just re read your post and realized that it was the pick up mounting plate.
Dis- regard my previous statement. |

John, Thanks for the concern. I am not sure if the pickup is a factory Zum pickup. Perhaps some one else added the mounting plate later. Also, thru some online research, The seller who sold it to the guy I bought it from, told me it sat in it's case for 30 years, it is 38 years old, built in 1977. So it may have not got much use or attempted adjustments over the years. There were only 2 raises that didn't have enough travel. It is all set-up and sounding fine! Mike |
