The hardwired cord on my Supro had seen better days, so I swapped it out for an output jack. While I was messing around with the guts I figured I would add a tone control as well.

The victim:

Drawn and quartered. Of course I chipped the guitar taking off the control plate.

I decided to use a stacked pot like those found on Fender Jazz Basses. I wouldn't have to modify the control plate at all, just route the control cavity a little deeper.

The vertical line represents the edge of the control cavity. The big dot to the right of it represents the center of the hole for the output jack. By drilling the output jack hole close enough to the control cavity, I wouldn't have to drill another hole later to connect the two.

Wiring up the electronics. I used the 250 pot as the volume control and the 500 as the tone. The cap actually extends into the hole I drilled for the output jack. I also had to lengthen the output wire from the pickup to reach the new pot.

And the finished project:

I'll post some sound files when I get a chance.

Very nice job. Looks like it came from the factory like that. I almost bought one of those on Ebay a while back but decided I had enough lap steels for the moment.
