Austin legend Herb Steiner will be featured at our Feb. 15th meeting... Herb has been coerced into playing for free... so y'all should come out and hear some great steel guitar.

Our venue is as usual:

290 West Club
12013 U.S. 290W
Austin, TX 78737
(512) 288-0808

... and our normal time: jam at 2pm, Herb at 3pm, jam after Herb. Our backup band will be:

Jerry Motley guitar
John Chandler drums
Charlie Irwin bass

The club has great burgers and drinks... bring something to sell (or play!).

We won't be meeting in March... we expect to see all y'all in Dallas then!

You guys are lucky to nab Herb Steiner. And, for free!! Wow. We need him to come to Katy. Gas is cheap now, Herb.

I might be in your neck of the woods the first week of August. Are there any steel related things going on between Aug 3 and 8?

Uh, Steve... I thought that was between you and me, and not for general publication.

This just in: I will have amongst my accompanists two dear friends and great musicians; Steve Vague on tenor saxophone, and Jimmy Shortell on trumpet.

I'm really looking forward to this one! Smile

And on upright bass that day, sitting in for the previously committed Charlie Irwin, will be the most excellent Johnny Cox! So this will another fine session of jamming and musical mayhem.

Sure had a great time today... Herb had a great set, met new folks, played some fun steel and got to hang out with the group. Other steelers (with guitars) in attendance: John Russell, Dennis Bailey, Adam Pryzbla, Gary Thorsen, Rose Sinclair, and yours truly. Amazing how some horns classes up a gig! Steven and Jimmy were great, hope to see them again. We got to celebrate John Chandler (drums) getting elected to the Texas Western Swing Hall Of Fame... and, as usual, there was not enough time for all we wanted to do... lots of schmoozing and hob-nobbing, even out into the parking lot... steelers and their friends are great folks!

The great one, Herb Steiner. The first tune is from Miles Davis, Freddie Freeloader. Great job by everyone. Jody Cameron also does this tune. Great blues.

Great set by Herb and the Horns with the House Band, and Johnny Cox played some outstanding upright bass.
