I guess we should throw Multichord by Harlin Bros. in the mix.

Carter was a great brand without a doubt and so was Sho-Bud, Franklin, Zumsteel, and other brands listed. Before I started playing steel, I used to get brochures and flyers about shows Carter Steels would be a part of in the mail from the Carter Steel Guitar Company. I had an opportunity to try out a Carter at the 2003 ISGC, and got a bar from them-it's my current bar, and I still love it! I also wish I could've seen Sho-Bud when Shot Jackson had his shop in Nashville.

Interesting to see MSA on here, but not Emmons. I think a good argument could be made to include both brands on either list - no longer being made, or currently being made.

MSA no longer makes the Millennium, but as far as I know, they are still masking the Legend and Studio Pro models.

In Per Berner's list I see Sheffield is not in bold. Seems to me we had a thread only a year or so back with pics of a new one he turned out for someone.

They say beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and to me those were some of the prettiest steels I have ever seen. Unfortunately my skill level is not high enough that I can justify the cost of one but maybe some day.....

I drove by the Emmons Factory in Burlington on East Webb Avenue last week and the building is empty and the Emmons Guitar Co. name is no longer on the building. I don't know if they are out of business or have moved. Billy Knowles or Lynn Stafford could give us an update.

Joe
The current Russler guitar is being made, and is the one Russ Hicks has been playing on the steel shows of late.

No relation at all to the Rus-ler guitar mfg'd in AZ in the 70's.

Yes, Dave wheelhouse is still making the Sheffield steel guitars, as far as I know. And they are gorgeous.
