what does retirement mean? he's not going to play regularly with mel anymore?
he's hanging his picks up for good?
he's going to draw social security?
he's gonna do whatever he wants, which may include picking? |

Where did you see that. I can't imagine Terry retiring. But if anyone has the right to retire, it would be Terry. Such a great player. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . That was what his son posted. Also Johnny Cox announced, on Facebook, that he was joining the Mel Tillis band as the steel player so that would confirm that Terry has stepped down.
Terry's son said he was 5 when his father first went to work for Mel and his son said his is 52 now.
I first met Terry in 1971 when I worked at Little Roy Wiggins Nashville (Lower Broadway) music store as the amp tech. Terry, apparently, was responsible for getting equipment fixed when they came in from the road. Just about every time they came in he would bring me a small suit case filled with mic cords to repair. He said "Mel could look at a mic cord and trip over it and break it". |

Terry is great. He certainly earned the retirement. Glad to know he will remain active with Branson show. Congratulations Terry.
Keep the picks and bar handy. |

Johnny is a great player too. It will be strange seeing Mel without Terry, but they have one of the best stepping in to fill the hole left by Terry. _________________ Carter D10 8p/8k, Dekley S10 3p/4k C6 setup,Regal RD40 Dobro, Recording King Professional Dobro, NV400, NV112,Ibanez Gio guitar, Epiphone SG Special (open D slide guitar) . I met Terry last year at the Mt. Vernon Il. show. I enjoyed a great conversation with him, and later enjoyed his set. He's a great guy and great Steel player. _________________ GFI Expo SD10, Nashville 112, Steelers choice Pak-a- seat, Carter vol. pedal, Stage one vol. pedal, Peavey Deltafex. Yes Terry has retired from the road only but due to his upcoming back surgery tomorrow has been inactive. He is looking forward to playing steel shows when possible and is looking to find a local gig in Branson as soon as he's recovered from the surgery. |

Terry was in a significant automobile accident returning home from ISGC a few years ago and has experienced very painful back problems since that time. He's got no business lifting a heavy steel guitar and amp night after night. I feel for him very deeply, since I know how bad back problems can be for a working musician... or anyone, for that matter. _________________ My rig: Infinity and Telonics.
Son, we live in a world with walls, and those walls have to be guarded by men with steel guitars. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Lt. Weinberg? |
