Dan, I'm also very interested in Billy Briggs; I listened to a lot of his playing driving to MN and back over the weekend. I remember asking Clyde Brewer about Billy a few years ago and Clyde remembered him as being from Amarillo, but that was about it.
I hope someone can enlighten us!

This is what I've found out so far, Billy and his band the XIT boys were from around the Amarillo area , I have a lot of his music and it was kind of hard to find, I've also been told that Billy was one of the first steel players to put tall legs on his guitars, stand up and be the lead vocalist , also he built his own guitars of a Gibson design and used a 9 string tuning that was some form of C13 , this is all I know so if I'm wrong anyone feel free to correct me.
