I am a big fan of George L cords and use them for all my hookups. I have my Wet Reverb mono pedal in the effects loop of my PV Valve King 112. I have two 6 inch long cords connecting it. They are not George L cords but seem to work just fine.

I will be going stereo before too long and will need to use longer cords, with the stereo and two amps. I have quite a few old guitar cords from days gone by, but I do not have any George L cords to spare. Would I be just throwing money away by buying more of the expensive George L cords for hooking up the Wet Reverb stereo stomp box or will "just any old" guitar cords work just as well?

Guitar cords are just fine if they are good quality.
Cheers.

Thanks Larry for confirming what I thought. I just wanted to make sure. I do have good quality guitar cords, so I should be good to go......although, I do like the looks of the thin George L cords and it would look nice to have all the cords matching. (Just for my eyes...nobody else would notice or care) Maybe later, I will go George L.

Most steel guitar players use George L cables because of the low capacitance per foot rating (around 23pf per foot) and the ability to fix the cables without soldering should you need a repair. The lower capacitance cables allows the high frequencies that a steel guitar can offer to pass through. Not all guitar cables are equal in that regard even though they may be a good brand. If you have a cable with too much capacitance per foot you will loose your highs and it can even start to sound very muddy.

The fact that they look nice is just an added bonus LOL

Bob, for all the reasons you mentioned, that is why I use the George L cords from my guitar to black box to volume pedal to amp. Big difference in the highs with the George L cords vs. regular guitar cords.

My question about needing the George L's was pertaining to my stomp box Wet Reverb looped through the effects send and return on the amp. I was just thinking that since I was using George L cords to get the signal into the amp, anything looped into the effects loop would not need the George L cords. But, now I am having 2nd thoughts. Are you saying that I should use the George L's for the stomp box as well and for the same reasons?

George ,

All I was saying is the the capacitance should be the same per foot for all cables in the chain. I guess you could try it and it may not make a difference with a cable a few inches long but personally I wouldn't mix any cables in the chain. I would keep them all the same. If you tested your new cables and they were all the same capacitance per foot as the George L ones then ok. however, if they new one's are much higher in capacitance it may make a difference.

Bob, right now I am only running two cords that are 6 inches long, so I think I am OK. However, when I get a Stereo Wet Reverb and spread my two amps apart by several feet, things can change. I will be using cords six to eight feet long and there may be as many as four of them. So, I think I will bite the bullet and go George L all the way, just to be sure.

Thanks for your help and advice.

George
