I had been playing a friends SMS preamp with two Rick Johnson cabs. with 1501-4 BW speakers. Sounded great . The owner picked up his equipment today and I hooked up my Music Man 65 and what a difference .
Music Man amps are under rated. Maybe just too scarce. We don't hear much about them on the Forum.
I have owned a lot of Fender Twin's and the 65 Music Man kicks A$$.
Thought about selling it but my Evans can't touch it for tone.
Try one if you get a chance.

My 130 watt 1976 Music Man 212 H-D kicks ass. It's like a Fender twin on steroids.

I've been told that I have the very rare model with a tube pre-amp.

Mine has served me well since I bough it (used) in 1977. However, it weighs around 70 pounds, and I've gotten too old and decrepit to carry it around any more. I need something lighter, so I first got a pair of ZT clubs, and more recently bought a Quilter.

With a lot of reluctance,I'm going to be selling the Music Man soon.

Bill, the badge on the bottom of yours doesn't say, but by the looks of it Im guessing theres a single 15" speaker inside. It looks brand new!

Mark Bass amps have partnered with them, so definitely moving forward in the amp market again. Ive always thought of them as more of a guitar company (I have an early model Steve Morse). I haven't tried MM amps.

I worked at a little music store in the '70s. Music Man was one of the amp lines we sold. They sounded great, and as an amp tech I remember being impressed with their build quality. And as a steeler I remember being impressed with the Music Man rep who would visit us occasionally, a fine gentleman by the name of Jody Carver.

I have a Music Man HD150RP, I have a 15 EVM in mine and this thing really sound great whether I am using my Remington 8 string or my Mullen G2. I changed the reverb tank and got a modd reverb tank, sounds even better.

Clete , It has a new Rick Johnson cab. When I got the amp it was a head only. Ken Fox went through it and Rick built the cab. It is a 115 with a JBL.

A musicman 65 non reverb head and a Marshall 1965 B 410 cab has been my guitar rig for 15 years. it takes to stomp boxes real well. Tried it with a borrowed 15 and it sounded awesome with PSG as well. Need the cash for a neo 15 and a cab !

I'm a MM aficionado too.. have 2- 115-65's from 1977 (12ax7 phase inverter) and a 212-65 also from '76-'77.. D130 and Sica in each of the 115-65's... stock eminence 12's in the 212-65..workhorse amps and wonderful ..I bought one of the 115-65's in '78 and it has been well traveled without an issue...and yes... snowed in here too with 22+" from Juno!

Chris how do the Sica speakers sound in your MM. I have the EVML15 and was looking to lighten the load a bit but I have not heard of many 15" speaker swaps in the MM.

Micheal.. The Sica sounds great, as does the EPS 15C..I happen to really like EV speakers too, but you're right...the weight is substantial..Am still using the old coffee can EV SRO's in a couple guitar amps because of their tone..

I have a new recone EVM15L I have never hooked up. Thinking on putting it in the MM to check it out. The amp is heavy but I'm not taking it out anyway.

I have two MM bass heads. One is a 65 watt and the other is a 150 watt. I use outboard reverb/delay so the fact these don't have reverb is not a problem. Since they are heads the weight is also not a problem. I like the switch they have that allows for choosing 4 or 8 ohm loads and that helps because I have both 4 and 8 ohm speakers. These things have all the power needed and the steel sounds fantastic with them. In most cases I prefer them to my SS amp. One of my speakers is a Sica but I put it in my NASH 400 to lighten the load but when I used it with the MM it sounded good.

I have 2 MMs,a'79-ish 210-65,which is hands down the best six-string amp I've ever owned, and an '81 212HD-150,which hasn't done at all well for steel or six-string.Just recently took delivery on a Twin Reverb Custom 15,which sounds very nice-that's motivation enough to get both Music Mans out of the garage and A/B them with the Twin. Winking

Well, The black on silver logo means 79 or older if that helps. If it was silver on black it would be 80 up. I did have a web page for MM but can't find it. If I run across it I will post. Smile
