Okay so last night I had a few cold ones and decided I would clean up my old HOt rod deluxe amp.
I didn't see the set screw on the chicken head knobs and I tried to pry the knob off with a screw driver. What ended up happening is the pot shaft pulled out a small amount and now it allows the pot to turn indefinitely, in both directions. I haven't tried the amp out yet but I am curious as to what I may have done to the pot, and can I fix it without replacing with a new pot. The pot might still function but I wouldn't count on it. I doubt if pushing it back in will give you your stops back again either. It's soldered onto the circuit board. Definitely recommend replacing it ASAP. _________________ Michael Brebes

the shaft is splayed out to retain it. you might be able to just push it back in EXACTLY where you pulled up on it!!!....and it might hold. you will for sure need to replace it. i only work on old fender amps. you best hope that this is not a circuit board amp with the pots soldered to the circuit board. if it is, you are going to have to remove everything to get to that pot!! let us know what you find. |

It is a circuit board amp with the pots soldered to the board.
This layout is for the Blues Deluxe - basically the same thing. The Hotrod just uses a 12AX7 gain stage unused on the Blues.

The input jacks on a Blues Deluxe are soldered to the circuit board and I managed to put Switchcrafts input jacks on mine. I don't know if the pots can be done that way or not. |

Pots on a Hot Rod Deluxe are soldered directly to the PCB and have a bracket on the pot as well.
For some reason local guys destroy these pots often so I've had to replace them. |
