Hi all,

I just wanted to give some props to Ted Russell from N.J. for a great gig he played at recently in Asbury Park for the annual 'Light of Day' benefit concerts for Parkinson's Disease.

All performers play for free, and so far they have raised over $2.5 million.

Ted plays for Jersey Legend John Eddie who is now based in Nashville and has put out some great Cd's as well as having written some big hits for others.

Ted has been with him on steel for about 3 years and sounds great with the whole band which includes Kenny Aaronson on bass(New York Dolls and Bob Dylan's Band to name a few).

The show last Saturday featured John Eddie along with Southside Johnny, LaBamba's Big Band, Garland Jeffries(sp), Joe Grushecky, Willie Nile, Bruce Springsteen, and many others.

Ted said he was the only steel on the show, but it is nice to see him out on such a high profile gig.

Great work Ted, below is a clip from one of the many shows that week at the Cutting Room in NYC.

Thank you so much for the shout out Craig! Yes, the Light of Day Foundation supports awareness and research into Parkinson's Disease. A whole series of concert events are held annually in the U.S., Canada and Europe to raise funds toward that end. Asbury Park is the epicenter of the U.S. concert series each year, with something like 15-20 events occurring over approximately 10 days in venues all around town and in nearby areas including New York City.

For those that may not know, Asbury Park is synonymous with a pretty famous New Jersey shore music scene. Artists that got started here and still consider it home base include Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, Southside Johnny and my boss John Eddie. It's predominantly a rock scene, but fortunately for me John wants a pedal steel in the band as his music straddles a line between what could be considered country or rock. The YouTube clip in Craig's post was from one of the LOD shows in NYC last week, but we also played a set on the big finale show this past Saturday night at the Paramount Theatre in Asbury Park, a show that included basically a two hour Bruce Springsteen concert at the end. It was very cool to be part of, to say the least. Thanks again Craig.

Awesome Ted,

Nice that John puts you up front and center, I'm sure he really digs your playing,

Hope Bruce did too.

Ted, Which backline amp did you use? Looks like a Vox and and a Fender Deville near you.

Thanks Jack, Charlie and Craig!

Joseph: At the Paramount I was playing through a Roland JC120 which you can barely see since it was right up my back in front of the Vox. The Deville, and you can actually see a second one when the camera pans right during the instrumental part of Same Old Brand New Me, and which are both leaned way back, are Bruce Springsteen's amps. No one was allowed to plug into those except Bruce! At the NYC show (Born To Run) I was playing through both a Fender Deluxe Reverb and a Fender Super Sonic 22. In both cases I can't say I had time to really dial in an ideal sound; you just have to find something close, quickly.

Thanks Ted. Bruce played a few songs with my buddy's band Timepiece a couple years ago at Woody's in Farmingdale. Bruce used a Bugata amp they had set up for the frontman to use for harp. My friend told me Bruce swiped all the knobs on the amp all the way to 10 right before he started playing. So much for dialing in a sound! BTW you sounded great!
