Hi all,
I'm looking for information regarding an old 8-string that could be coming my way.
It's called 'Elektro Artist' from around the 50's. The body is finished in grey 'mother of pearl' with the name written in script across the pick-up, with what looks like German written underneath 'Herensdorf'. The headstock is off-white with a strip of grey MOP down the middle, the fretboard has dot markers with three similar off-white strips across the seventh, twelfth and eighteenth frets. The tuners are pearl plastic, finally there's a fancy engraved cover over the bridge.
Anyone out there know of this brand and it's history?
Would it be a good buy as a fixer-upper to sell on...or maybe a keeper? |

If you scroll down on the home page, there's a montage of pics, the guitar I'm talking about is in the lower left hand corner, the grey-ish colour one. Now my next question is, would I be crazy to buy it? I'm a sucker for retro instruments, especially in 'pearloid' and it looks like a handy fixer-upper project. I can buy it for around 200 euro (that's about $230)...would that be a good deal? I might love it and keep it, but if I didn't want to keep it, would I be stuck with it?
Help! |

I don't believe these guitars were ever imported into the USA. There might possibly be one or two which were brought back from Germany by a serviceman or tourist. There probably aren't a lot of Americans on this site who would have any experience with these guitars.
I would be hesitant to recommend an unknown German lap steel as a good investment, whether it works or not. _________________ Brad’s Page of Steel
