If you had a double-six guitar, and one neck was tuned to standard C6 (C-E-G-A-C-E, low-to-high), how would you tune your second neck?

Please exclude the C6-based tunings that can be achieved by slacking or raising a few strings, such as A6, B11, and C6/A7.

Well........since you said a tuning that you can't get to by tweaking C6.....depending on what type of music you are playing.....I'd be tempted to go for an E Major-type tuning or maybe High Bass G.

I would tune it to E9: E B G# F# D B high to low.

So much music in there!

My choice is E7th, a lot more slants than C6th, but worth it to get near the Pedal Guitar sounds and in the same key.

I am with Mike on the E9 tuning. I would use an .18 gage B second string so I could retune it to C# for a nice C#mi9 tuning ( one of Jerry Byrd's favorites) With those two options, there is a lot of great music there.

Jack

I suggest you give A low bass a try

E A E A C# E

its the old timey tuning you will find in the old tab songbooks from the 1930s and 40s

It includes a fair bit of struming and provides a different sound.

I am sure several of the forum members "cut their teeth " on this tuning.

George Rout , a fine gentleman that lives close to me still teaches
A low base. ..........I am very fortunate to have spent time with him

give it a try !
