The next time you change strings pull the tuner pan, there should be a date written in pencil under there. |

1960's... grade school years... Fender Catalog... other kids wanted a new bicycle....I longed for that thing in Sunburst... But white would have been just fine. _________________ Lawyers are done: Emmons SD-10, 3 Dekleys including a D10, NV400, and lots of effects units to cover my clams... |

If that's a brown Tolex case (not completely sure it's not tweed from the picture), they typically date out 1959-61. Tweed is older, assuming the guitar came with the case. I agree the guitar looks 60's-ish, with the case suggesting very early 60's. But the pencil under the pan don't lie! |

I bought my brand new Fender "Champ" in 1961. It came with a brown Tolex case.

Never saw a Fender guitar in a brown Tolex case I didn't like! Still have my P-Bass.
Wish I still had my Strat. And my stack-knob Jazz Bass. Sigh. |

Seems to me some tweed-era Fender cases were covered with a smooth leatherette material darker than the regular tweed linen, and John's case looks like one of those. If the case is original to the guitar,I'd say '57-'59. |

There's currently a brown case stringmaster for sale with a pencil date of '63. Later than I've seen, but I'm sure Leo never threw anything away. |

+1 on mid-late '50s... the case is linen, not brown tolex. Pull the plate, the pots will have date codes. _________________ New FB Page: Lap Steel Licks And Stuff: https://www.facebook.com/groups/195394851800329 |

Jerry Berger... Do you remember how much you paid for that beauty?
Thanks in advance for the info and regards.
