Wondering whether anyone out there has tried adding pulls to the fourth pedal, in addition to the basic Emmons setup C6 neck pulls. Too much pedal pressure required? Problems with travel? I'm not sure whether it works well for some of the things that I would think to add there... but I'm curious about anyone's experiences with this. It's an MCI, if that matters.

Thanks.

I am almost positive that Paul Franklin has been doing this for years. And I suspect since he has done it, others have too.

Nick,
It works fine on my Franklin although the 4th pedal is a bit stiffer then the others. I'm not so sure it would work on my PP Emmons though.

I had Mike Cass put the PF change on the 4th pedal of my D10 75PP when he worked his magic on her last year. The PP will make the change, but the pedal is much stiffer now than with just the standard C6th pulls.

The 4th pedal on my Zum works both necks. Mechanically it's good but a little hard to get used to. I gotta be careful cause catching the edge of pedal 3 ain't purty, but so are some of the other things I do.

I have two pulls on each neck on my Emmons, and I'm raising strings 1 and 2 on my E9, with three pulls on C6, on my new Zum - there's no problem with either guitar.

I call this "doubling" floor pedals, and I do it not only on P4, but P5 as well. Sure, the pedals are stiffer if you're pulling more than the usual 2 or 3 strings, but it's easy to get used to...not unlike driving a standard shift vehicle, where the brake, clutch, and gas all require a different "touch". Most modern steels will let you get the effort the same, but at an increase in travel. It all depends on how you want the pedals to feel.

Mullen Guitars are set up with the PF change on 4 as well as the normal C6th change. I didn't notice any difference at all in the action, ansd it worked great. I just prefer it on an extra 1st pedal.

I have it on my Derby, a little bit stiffer but not a problem.

My first (4) pedals have been on the E9 neck for a few years now. When I ordered my last Franklin in '01, I ordered the 7th. str. (C) with a 1/2 Tone raise, on the C6 neck added to my 4th. pedal, which raises strs. 4 & 5 on the E9. (1 tone) No problem here! The standard 4th pedal change on my C6 neck is on pedal #5 since I have (9) floor pedals.

A slight correction! I do not have the standard 4th. pedal change on the floor, but; rather on a LVK. My 5th. pedal is in the standard position.
