Just up on YouTube is this incredible one-hour interview with Johnny Smith, one of the greatest plectrum guitarists of all time. Hearing Johnny Smith explain technique is an amazing opportunity whether you play standard guitar or not.

Seeing Johnny Smith scuffling through his own arrangements is illuminating even as he pulls off incredible voicing and stretches. His technique in playing scales and arpeggios in his prime is unmatched. Back in the day, Barney Kessel said something like "Nobody plays guitar better than Johnny Smith. They may play differently, but on one plays better."

It was really interesting listening to his tips.

When he was describing how to change fingerings to avoid unused strings in the middle of a voicing, I thought it was interesting. But one thing I noticed is that acoustically the timbre was not pleasant to me when he made the change.
