Are there other ways to get a 7#9 chord other than using the 8th pedal? I can't seem to find one.

Playing a minor triad over a Dom7 will do it. If the guitar or keyboard player is playing C7 and you play Cm or Cm7 w/the minor third on top, the result is a C7#9. That's one easy way I've used.

If you lower A to Ab on the 4th string, that can give you F7#9 with P6 on strings 9,8,6,4.

Larry is correct.

It is interesting to note that Jerry Byrd used this chord long before pedals came into vogue. In fact Jerry invented the A7/C6 tuning:

E
C
A
G
E
C#

On his 6 string rick back in the 40's. While he did not use it as a "sharp9" often, he DID make use of the "7th" chord often in his recordings.

Also, he would often change the 6th string between a C and a C# (and vice versa)depending on what song he was about to play. And in a few cases has been known to change it in the middle of a song. Yes you heard me

But then there is only one JB.

I shall ALWAYS believe that the reason BE created pedal 8 on his D-8 PSG was because he was a JB protege' and this was only natural that it be on Buddy's PSG.

Jerry later had the best of both worlds when he used his 7 string rick (now his Sho-Bud D-Cool:

(7 String Rick)

E
C
A
G
E
C#
C

(Sho-Bud D-8)

E
C
A
G
E
C#
C
A (low low note--same as the 10th string with pedal 8 engaged on a PSG)

E
C
B
A
G
F
E

Note: he does not put the 8th string on this "diatonic" neck.

May Jesus continue to bless JB,
BE and all of you,

carl

Open string D7+9 is available with pedals 5 and 6.

2. F (=E#)
3. C
5. F#
8. A
10. D

Open string Ab7+9 with pedals 5 and 7:

4. B
5. Gb
8. C

And, the same Ab7+9 with the B on a different string, using pedal 5 and the knee lever that lowers C to B:

3. B
5. Gb
8. C
