To prevent a string from getting caught under the thumb pick I used to bridge the gap with scotch tape. It worked well, but after a while the tape would come off. This now is made of flexible plastic, shaped and glued to the pick's blade with super glue (contact glue doesn't really stick to the pick material). Hopefully, this will last longer, especially since no force other than its own weight is pulling on it.

I don't use picks mostly because of the thumb pick being so uncomfortable and it catches under the strings. I'll have to try your idea out and see if I can join the pick users of the world.

I used wide blade style picks for years and would occasionally have a string get caught under it where it would pull the pick off my finger.

One day many years ago I decided to try some Fred Kelly speed picks and have never once had that happen again. You might order a couple and see what you think.

I used Fred Kelly speed picks when playing 6 string, tried them on steel and now they are the only thumbpick I use. Love the feel and sound. FWIW Winking

Fred Kelly speed picks, the only way to go. Bought one several years ago on a whim, tried it, bought several more, haven't used anything else since. If you decide to try them, they are size color coded.

The Kelly speed picks are really good and comfortable, but they seem to change the tone to the more treble, and lower the bass strings tone quite a bit compared to the heavier Thumbe picks.

I have just this week started using "Metal" thumb picks, after being with Herco blue's since 1970 when I started on pedal steel. It's just after I tried a friends that made me make the switch....These are made in the United States and called Propik. look it up...they come in small medium or large....they are so comfortable. Look on Google for them. Of course this is not to everyones taste, and I never thought I'd go this way, but it's a great company with a good selection of finger picks too...vintage style, angled picks...you name it Propik have it Very Happy

I have one of those ProPik thumbpicks with the metal band and delrin blade. It's nice, but I must have it bent wrong -- I occasionaly catch a string in the band. I need Hans' fix to make it work. Smile

The only other brand of pick that I have this problem with is National.

Hi Tucker....the good thing with the Propik is that it's so easy to bend the top band to fit....no more holding a plastic thumb pick under hot-ish water to get the size you want. I just today ordered a couple of the thumb picks in "large" ...I also ordered a couple of "vintage style" ...to give them a try Very Happy

Hi guys, here's the little shop in U.K. that imports the Propik Metal picks. You probably have lots of places there should you want to purchase one.

What everyone said about the Fred Kelly speed pick. The underside never catches on a string and the small blade makes other thumb picks, in my opinion, feel "clunky."

Good job, Hans. I've modified picks for the same reason. For me, that is the trouble spot, too. Thanks for posting. It gives me some ideas.
