Considering adding an 8 String Rickenbacher B8 Panda to my collection and possibly an 8 string Fender Stringmaster. Is the string spacing the same on an 8 String lap steel guitar as a 6 string lap steel guitar ?

On vintage steels, the answer is typically no. All too often, like with the Rick B8, they did not design a new body and neck for it, but rather just shoehorned in a couple extra strings. Even on instruments designed for more strings, the trend was to still use a tighter spacing.
