I'm thinking of getting an amp stand to mount a 6-space rack closer to my steel. I know a lot of guys sit their 4- and 6-space racks on the floor on their right side, but I'd like to have it off the floor (due to having some neck/disc issues).

Can anyone show me some pictures of their racks on amp stands and/or make a recommendation on which stand would work the best? I would need one with long enough arm length for stability.

Thanks guys! Again, pictures would be great!

Don

Cawby. Although they were made in different sizes. I have one that about 9 inches and another about twice that.

Don, since I know what rack you're talking about,
Not made here but can't beat the price, turn the rails around so the longer part is supporting the base, and it can be height adjusted. I've got both of the previously mentioned stands, not what you want. Amazing they can sell these for this price and still make a profit, you'll never wear it out, and you couldn't make one for this price. It will be at just the right height to make adjustments. It's what I used.

I've been interested in these http://standback.net/index.php. I think the Standback stands are the most interesting I've seen. I haven't tried one, but they keep the amp close to the ground for improved bass response, fit anything and are compact. One or two are on my purchase list.

I believe he is wanting to use a stand to get his rack, not an amp, off the floor and closer to him so he doesn't have to bend down. This stand won't accomplish that. It will just add an angle.

I've used the stand mentioned from Musician's Friend for my NV 400, and it didn't work that great. You had to angle it too far back so it wasn't front heavy, and it would fall forward dumping the amp on the ground. it might work if you turn it backwards and have the rack angled towards you.

Richard,

You are correct in what I'm looking for.

I think the stand George mentioned from Musician's Friend is the ticket. Turning the arms around so the long arms are on the bottom of the rack would work for my purposes. However, I was concerned about the stability and wondered if the legs on this unit are too narrow for a 6-space rack.

I trust George's recommendation. If he uses it, I'm sure it will be fine...and what a great price!

George: did you use the same amp stand for your FYD/Freyette rig?

Thanks again to all who responded.

Don

I've used these for about 4 years, work great for my speakers powered for rack stuff, not the same thing Don is asking. Like I said turn the stands "rack" opposite to what you see and the longer support will hold bottom of the rack, and yes Don I've used it with the FYD/Freyette rack setup.
Here is that same stand in use...over and out

I use one of these, for my guitar amp. Works pretty good, and the whole thing folds flat.

I just can't understand why you all are using so many things for steel guitar. I use my steel, a Shobud pedal, and my Fender split Twin. Do whatever you want,,,, but I don't think your sound is really improved. But I'm old-fashioned.

John,
Shouldn't bother you one bit...you don't have to lug it. I have to deal with amplified banjo and electric fiddle, in addition to steel. I'll deal with it as long as I enjoy it, I'm busy.

I answered Don's question with the best experience I could, responses like yours really seem to me to serve no useful purpose, and then I wonder why you don't hear from some of the great resources you once did. Heck every response except Richards was not even addressing Don's primary question. I know Don's need to elevate the rack because I sold it to him and understand perfectly why he wants to do it, I did the same thing.
PS: tone is in the ear of the beholder and I'm quite satisfied with mine. And that's all that matters...really.
