I just got the Guitar Pro 6 tab software so here's my first effort .... my arrangement of the Celtic tune Banish Misfortune for acoustic steel guitar in open D:

Banish Misfortune audio of arrangement:

Note that the audio is electronically generated. It’s really all the little hesitations and ornaments that make Celtic music come alive. I'm self-taught in music notation and don't know how to notate them so just take the arrangement as a guide to put your own spin on this classic tune. _________________ Steel Guitar Books! Andy, I must admit the thread title had me concerned and confused for a split second, only because I've never heard of the song. I'm not ashamed to say, but it is true, that I know next to nothing about Celtic and Scottish and even American folk songs, even though my ancestry is tied to all of the above. It is funny that I know much more about African music than I do about these other styles.
Anyway, I'm gonna check it out! _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

It's an old favorite of mine. Great modal tune. I play the head a little differently but hey - it's folk music! Pete Grant plays some great Celtic stuff on Dobro. I'm not deep into the repertoire but I have a few faves I've played for years. There's a lot of untapped potential for this kind of music on steel. _________________ Steel Guitar Books!
