I have a Rus-ler S10.
The pick-up has poles in the middle and appears to have smaller "Holes" on either side of the poles, about 1/2" away from the center. The guitar has a 3 way switch with 3 distinct sounds.

It seems as though the pick-up has no springs or a way to raise or lower it.

Who made these pick-ups?
Are they humbuckers?
Will TrueTone's fit on this guitar?

Any info would be appreciated.

Jack,
I had a D-10 Rusler that had George L pickups in it....I took them out as they were pretty muddy sounding, and put a TrueTone in both the E9 and C6 neck....Jerry wound the E9 at 17.5K and the C6 at 18.5K....When I plugged that steel into the amp, it was like a had a brand new steel ...HOLLY COW what a tone !!...Very nice indeed...have Jerry wind you a 17.5k and you'll grin from ear to ear....The pickup you're talking about sounds like a Danny Shields Crap trap...They look as you describe and have 3 settings to them one side is brite, the other side is darker, and the middle position has the mids scooped out of the tone..You end up with a nice bottom and top with no mids....Its a very nice tone for certain applications....I am not sure what the original Rusler pickups looked like...I know they were suppose to sound pretty good, but I have had no experience with them....I have the Danny Shields on my Sierra and love it !!..Jim

Russ Russell wound his own pickups. He took the idea from ZB steels. (He worked for ZB in Phoenix before starting the Rus-ler company). I have the pickup winder he used as well as hundreds of magnets, coil bobbins and a few of the pickups unwound.
