Not sure how to describe this sound but I have an GFI keyless SD12. Changed the strings for my first time on this keyless and things seemed to go without any problems, but, there is a strange ringing sound on strings 6,7&8. Kind of hard to describe. Nothing that I can see to cause this. Have tried putting more pressure on the bar but this does not make any difference
and the sound is at all frets. The guitar has the Wallace True Tone pickup. Does anybody have any ideas about what might be causing these particular strings to be making this strange ringing sound when you play them. Sorry I don't have a better description of the sound they make. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, David |

Probably not in the pickups....check the changer fingers for very slight grooving. If so, it can be worked out by careful buffing....be sure and don't lose the "radius" on the fingers however.

Thanks for the responses. The guitar is only a year old and does not show any wear. The sound has a kind of rattle ring to it after going back and listening to it again. Was wondering if anyone familiar with the keyless tuners might have a suggestion as for something I might look for that would cause this particular sound on these strings.
Anyway, appreciate the suggestions.

I have the same problem with my new Excel keyless. It is alot worse when I play the 6, 8, @ 10 strings on the 12th fret and above. I'm relieved someone else is having the same problem. I was going to try and gets some lessons from a more experienced play and let him try and figure it out. |

Is the pickup too close to the strings? The magnetic force may be causing "wolf tones". |

If it didn't do it with the old strings, I'd be suspicious of the new strings. What brand are they? I restrung my old Shobud once with Earnie Ball strings and had the same problem. It's not that there was anything wrong with the strings, it's just that they weren't suitable for steel. it was because the "knots" at the ball end were very long, and the strings weren't able to seat well on the fingers. As soon as I tried strings from a different company, with a shorter, tighter knot, the ringing went away. |
