Bill,
I'm not going to be much help for you, except some general thoughts. I used the Pod XT and XT Pro extensively for years, but when I moved on, I didn't get the HD because the amp model I used most for Pedal Steel was no longer used in the unit (The Roland Jazz Chorus). The EQ just worked better for me on that model, and I felt I was able to get cleaner with it.
The "trick" I used to do was keep the gain all the way down, the volume all the way up (on the amp model), then used the studio compressor (the one on the button), not for compression, but turn up the make-up gain... to get some of the volume back.
My guess is I would start with the Fender Twin model in there, and do some similar things...
Good luck,

I used a POD XT and now a POD X3, primarily effects only no amp modeling. The POD X3 I had developed some problems so bought a POD HD. I tried the POD HD and the effects are different and I couldn't use the "Tones" (what Line 6 calls the programs) from my X3 in the HD. I did some new tones, trying to replicate what I had in the X3 (e.g. digital delay and spring reverb) but they sounded different and sterile. I sent the POD HD back and got a refund. I bought a basically new POD X3 off of e-bay and happily "back in business". |

Thanks David, I have a couple of patches that I have been working with, problem is, I only have one guitar at present and don't have enough time at Church to really work with it. I have a pod XT that I use now, got a good buy on the HD,got it for a backup unit.If it was as simple (maybe when I learn it)as the XT, it would not be so intimidating.
Thanks for your input...Bill
If someone has a couple of patches to share, email me, and I will answer with my email so you can send as attachments. _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers

Bill the unit is not well understood here on the forum, Ive had 2 years of experience with it on steel and I can help you out with it . I will say that this unit is completely different than the xt, any advice will not be accurate at all . You have a great unit there and it works well with PA systems and any amp you have. Learning it is what your up against and i will help you.
what type of music do you like first off ?
Do you play in a band with PA or just use an amp in the basement with a PA ? (I do both)
We may have to move into private messaging because of the learning curve
Craig
edited , just saw that its for Church, probably need a fatter sound. No problem _________________ SO MANY LURES, SO LITTLE TIME....

Craig, I rally appreciate your help, I think I have pretty well got a "sorta" handle on what I need, I have been working with the program on my laptop and have come up with a couple of patches that I think will work for starters. My biggest problem is that I only have one guitar to work with, and I leave it at Church, but have had it home for the last couple weeks due to special programs. I play through a Pod XT into an ART-2, into two 15" BW cabinets that are miked into the sound system. My son was over yesterday and he gave me a couple tips on what order to put things. The biggest thing over the XT is there is so much more that can be done with the HD that it is very intimidating. If you have a couple of patches that you could put in a zip, and send, I would appreciate it. Thanks..Bill

Bill have you gotten into the utility section, to get to it, hold the view button down long enough to enter into the utilities , that will help you set up the output mode ofwhat your going into right away, that usuall clears up alot of tone issues quickly, just choose the right one for your purpose, youll hear the difference .
Then pick an amp, The amp block I use alot of is "pre bf double norm"
Hall reverb set to 30 on the mix that sounds good,
Using a noise gate can also cut off some unwanted surprises that pop up. You dont have to use it , but having it in there during a concert is a good idea in case of emergency.
If you want to use the tap feature for a delay you may have to copy a program from the presets into your user files and disect everything into it then save your settings.
theres a lot more to know once you get your sound corrected
definitly start with your sound first.
the rest is just to cool
Im not aware of how to create a zip file for you with settings I use " not that smart"
my setup will be back here next week and we can touch base after that

Craig, Got into the utility section where you can adjust different stomps, gettin the hang of it, got a couple that sound OK, gonna take to Church tomorrow and give it a try. Thanks
If you have a file on your computer with the patches/tones, it's simple, multiple files pictures, etc can be sent together, rather than one at a time.
To create a zip file, right click the file you want to zip, click send to, then compressed (zipped) folder.

I suspect Craig doesn't have the Pod HD connected to his computer, which he will need to do to be able to download patches in order to zip them for you.
That's a whole different subject! (need to connect via USB and use the Line 6 Monkey to get the patch editor, etc.)
This procedure is explained well on the Line6 website.

You need Pod HD edit for the HD unit, don't think monkey will work on this unit, different ballgame altogether.May have to register to download. Tried the changes yesterday, didn't like, I'll probably go down one morning and work on it with the setup I use it with.I'll take my laptop, lot easier to work with.
Bill
Go here, and chose PodHD/PodHD edit/system

Sorry Bill, I should have warned you not to test drive this thing in public, It most definitly needs to be worked on in the private sector,
I know that every model ive come up with needs certain tweaking from joint to joint and thats where you can dedicate the tweak knob itself to certain blocks in your created presets.
Its definitly not a plug and play pedal , it takes time to get it right, _________________ SO MANY LURES, SO LITTLE TIME.... |

Small room, small amp Versus really big room big amp. You never know which way to compensate. I'll get it eventually,I'm going to look at some XT patches and try to replicate them (again) now that I know how to modify them "on site".
We were not our normal setup, due to special programs,I got setup a little early and tried it, didn't like what I had, put the XT back in line...BF _________________ Bill Ford S12 CLR, S12 Lamar keyless, Misc amps&toys Sharp Covers
