My band is doing a little tour this summer in Germany and I'm trying to work out the technical details. I use a Hilton volume pedal and sometimes a delay pedal and maybe a reverb pedal (rather than the amp's reverb).

I'm going to have the use of a 220v Peavey session 500, so that part is taken care of.

My Hilton is the original kind with the attached cord. I suppose I could convert to the new detachable power supply and then get a euro voltage power supply. And I guess I could get a 220v 9v wall wart for the effect pedals.

Or, should I just plan on a step down transformer and run everything off it? I actually have one that came into my possession somewhere. Any drawbacks to a transformer? I reckon I could test it on a 220v source here and make sure it works.

Why not just use a pot volume pedal like a Goodrich and batteries for the effects?

When I was touring Europe with a my Hilton I could use a small transformer. One of those ones they make for electric shavers works fine. They don't use much power.

But.... I would advise using a decent step down transformer. That 220 can blow up 110 devices real good.
Also use a USA power strip after the transformer that has a surge protector.

Good suggestion. I have considered this. I need to replace the pot in my Goodrich and see if I can tolerate it after using the Hilton for so many years. I'd want to run a buffer in front of the passive volume pedal, and I have a couple of those.

I tried running an Rv-7 on batteries once while away and it really ate batteries. Crapped out mid gig once to horrible effect- it made strange popping thumping sounds as the battery was dying.

You'll easily get a 220v 9v wall wart for your effect pedals over here for probably less money then you would spend on batteries, depending on how many gigs you'll play and how hungry your pedals are this would pay off real quick.

I urgently needed one on tour a couple years back, the supermarket in a small town we crossed only had super cheap ones I usually wouldn't trust, 7,50€ to he exact. It is still in my rig.

Thanks, Howard. The band is Kiti Gartner and the Deceits. We are playing a couple of Rockabilly festivals and as many bar gigs as we can scare up. The goal is to come as close to breaking even as we can Smile

Kiti grew up in Germany and her mom still lives there. It should be a major blast!

Just a regular 1spot power supply will convert the power automatically, between 110 to 240 volts, so all you will need is a US to German adapter plug. I've done it both ways, with a step down transformer and without. Without seems to work just fine. Same is true with an iPhone with the charger that apple gives you. I'd still use pot pedals though.

p.s. Bring as much merch as you can carry. We've always sold more than what we estimate.
