Sho Bud on Ebay

Anybody check this guitar out on ebay.... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-Sho-Bud-Double-neck-pedal-Steel-guitar-/271701734854?pt=Guitar&hash=item3f42af75c6 ......wooden pickup surround....7000 serial number....? Is this a Baldwin guitar? There's another guitar listed.....a Baldwin..... http://www.ebay.com/itm/1968-SHO-BUD-PRoFESSIONAL-S-10PEDAL-STEEL-GUITAR-experimental-model-/231421218428?pt=Guitar&hash=item35e1c78e7c ....with a 7000 serial number. In the serial number thread featuring Gene Haugh, it was suggested that the 7000 numbers were reserved for special guitars. He seemed a little unsure about what was up with those numbers. We're they in fact the Baldwin era serial numbers?

Well, they're both Baldwin era guitars. I like the S-10. A few more knee levers and it would be killer. Too much $ for me though! Wishful thinking I guess.

Thanks for the reply john. In this thread http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=166611&start=271 Gene states " 7000 numbers from 7000 to 8109 are lost ". He also states " What I have in my information is a note that states -(numbers missing between 7000 and 8110 are the origional numbers used on Sho-Bud in the beginning and are kept in a file folder) I do not have access to that file folder. "

I saw those two Baldwin guitars with 7000 serial numbers and wondered if that's the answer to the 7 series question......?

In Duane Beckers field guide to sho bud guitars he states that the Baldwin guitars we're produced from '67 - '70. Genes numbers start in 1971. Just wondering.....

Oh I don't doubt it is! I have a '67 S-10, but's down at Morehead's for conversion and future sale.. We used to think that Shobud serials numbers were just random. But it turns out that Shot and David had reserved numbers for themselves. That's why guitars have been found that are wildly of of sequence in time.

Yup....still wondering. It would be interesting to see people weigh in with examples of models with 7000 serial numbers.

For starters....in that same sho bud sn thread, herb steiner writes " How about a red Professional ser. no. 7702 ? The guitar was rack and barrel undercarriage, round front cabinet, and late-60's pickups. Duane Marrs thought it might be a custom guitar since the neck selector and coil tap switches are between the necks instead of the right endplate."

Seems those numbers were used on production guitars as well..... as exemplified by those Baldwin guitars above.
