For all of you steel players, especially the newbies, the wonderful and educational book by Ruth White is now in its second printing. "Highway Out of Nashville" is great reading and a solid foundation for discovering all of the musical highlights of yester year at the Grand Ole Opry.
Her husband Howard White enjoyed a fabulous career in music in and around Nashville. He played with many of the all-time greats in country music.
Howard early on played a Bakelite Rickenbacher just like JERRY BYRD, his idol. He ultimately ended up with a Trot-Mor guitar just like JERRY BYRD's. Howard acquired unit #2 while Jerry had #1. I have Howards guitar proudly displayed in my music room at this time.
If you're interested in acquiring a copy, let me know and I'll pass your name and address on to Mrs. White for a ready response. |

Ruth White's new book "Every Highway Out Of Nashville - Volume 2" and all the ordering info is listed in the New Products section here:
http://bb.steelguitarforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=275989
It is "Volume Two", which means there are additional stories and info that as I understand it, were not included in Volume One from several years ago.
Howard White was a fine steeler, a Nashville Tennessee Steel Guitar Association's "Legends" award recipient who was liked by all and played steel, pedal and non pedal, on the road with many country music and Grand Ole Opry legends.
I feel this book is one every steel player who wants to learn and know as much as can be provided from the "golden era" of country music. Written by Ruth White, a fine writer who is like a living library of country music knowledge and history. |
