Ok, for all of you Derby owners out there.
What are YOUR choices for pickups in the Derby guitar. I see that the E66 comes
standard but was wondering what you all have chosen.

Being an extremely happy Derby owner, MHO is that the E-66 is the BEST match for that guitar. I'm NUTS about the tone. To my ears, the tone of my D-10 mica Derby is "the", "that" & most importantly, "MINE".

well I've changed the E-66 to the George L Tommy White. My Derby is a SD-10 4X5. now dont get me wrong,,,the E-66 was just fine, but after hearing another Derby thru my own equipment, I did the Change. the Bite isn't quit as hard as the E-66, and the Fullness , just seems to be what I was looking for. I use a Profex ll with the newman settings as well as a Izzy Plus out of my Steel. Out of the Profex ll I split it one side to a Nashville 400 and the other to a Fender twin. Those who have heard it know what I'm talking about. that coupled with Jagwire strings is the best sound I've found.

Didn't like the E-66. Changed out to Truetone by J. Wallace. It sounded great.
Now I'm using the L XR-16. So at this point you can't go wrong with a True Tone
or L XR-16. Even the L-710 would be a better
choice over the E-66 & GL TW pick up.
Just my almost 2 cents. |

Till now, I'm very satisfied with the E66.
I can get all the sounds I need.
If I get the chance, I will do some experimenting with other pickups. Would be great if there is a AB comparence (sp?)with the same Derby's , different PU's.
So, I'm satisfied now, and I'm also with my wife

Maybe Uncle Jerry Brightman will catch this & add his input.
I hope no one gets me wrong here as what works for me works for everybody which will NEVER be the case. Joe & Autry found what works for them, & for that matter you can order your Derby with any pickup you want to the best of my knowledge.
In the past my problem has been that I have no problem getting a full bodied (read; dark) tone. And now that I've experienced the pickups Joe & Autry mentioned, to my touch & ears they didn't work for me, but that's NOT to say that they wouldn't work for you.
What I'm saying is that when I sat down to a standard equipped E-66 Derby, NO effects; the sun came up, the bells & whistles went off, & I found the TONE I'd been searching for for around 30 yrs. In short; me happy.
The best to you in finding what works for your ears & touch, Bob.
