OK,BOBBE, Here's one that even you might agree with. We all know that a large part of that elusive thing we call "tone" comes from the player, right? (We do all know that don't we?) But do we also know that the tone of the instrument itself does not come from wood, metal, pickups, amps, cables, etc. It actually comes from a synergistic blend of all the components functioning properly together. Change one component and you change a portion of the sound or "tone". Notice I said,
"a portion",not all. And, does psychology enter into the mix...well,guess why I didn't buy that beautiful sounding (ORANGE) steel guitar from you. OK,it was because I know that some people love ORANGE and I certainly did not want to deprive someone else of the privilege of owning a beautiful ORANGE steel.
Thats alright Bobbe,I still think you are one of the nicest opinionated people I know!

What a Gas.........
OK, Bobby, ANSWER that one. Can't wait for your response on a, Let's see if I go it right.......An ORANGE steel? Hummmm...
I do remember we at Emmons' built a D-10 "Canary Yellow" steel, and when The body came up from being built downstairs, EVERYBODY, (Including Me) was laughing their butts off at this thing. It went to a player who I can't remember his name, that has played on the "Jay Leno Show" a time or two. You know though, after we put it together, that guitar looked pretty darn sweet with all the polished chrome necks and all. This steel was Lacquered, not mica, and you could "See" the wood grain.[This message was edited by RON PRESTON on 24 May 2003 at 08:36 AM.] [This message was edited by RON PRESTON on 24 May 2003 at 08:39 AM.] |

The story behind my comment goes something like this: about a year ago,I was shopping for a U-12. I logged onto Bobbe's website and spotted a beautiful Fessenden for sale.
I contacted Bobbe and closed the deal (I thought). Next day I called Bobbe to ask which carrier he was using to ship my steel.
He apologetically explained that there had been a terrible mix-up,and that his assistant had sold the Fessy before he could reserve it for me. The ensuing phone conversation went like this...BOBBE:"Wayne,I am really sorry this happened but I have another U-12 that is just as nice." WAYNE:"Great, what is it?" BOBBE:"It is a brand XXXXXX and is in perfect condition."
WAYNE:"Is that the Orange guitar I saw pictured on your web-site?" BOBBE:"Yes,and it is a beauty!" WAYNE:"But Bobbe,it is ORANGE." BOBBE:"I know, but it has an incredible tone and beautiful pedal action."
WAYNE:"But Bobbe it is ORANGE." BOBBE:"Trust me,you will love it." WAYNE:"Bobbe, it is ORANGE and I will have to look at it everytime I play it.".....Anyway,the phone conversation went on like that for a while and I opted to decline the purchase of that U-12. Now,lest anyone make more of this than I intended;let me say that Bobbe Seymore is a long-time valued friend of mine, whom I highly respect. We may joke around a bit,and even throw in a few cheap shots, but I wouldn't trade his friendship for anything. Not even for an ORANGE steel guitar.

I am still not sure what happened once in Detroit...and I am not sure I want to know.
At least with an flaming orange steel you wouldn't get hit by semi's while playing in truckstops! |

Jerry, I've bought three guitars from Bobbe over the last 15 years. Every deal I make with him is a very reasonable. I can almost guarantee I have not bought my last from him. Steel Guitarists are lucky to have this guy around!! I'm the kinda guy that likes to deal and Bobbe seems to be the only guy that will make a crazy deal work. I'm only posting because I hate to see the word A$$Xhole reffered to someone that has been a good trusting friend over the years. |

Kurt, sorry I can,t write with the correct tone to my voice.I,m a freind of Dr. Seymours and I regurly ask him to please post on this forum when he was on a period of silence for what ever reasons.I have sent customers to him and told people they will learn more in five minutes with him then an hour with other steel gurus.Once again, sorry for my warped sence of humor. lakeshrk |

Jerry,
No problem.....You can't spell, and Dr B can't spell, so, why not you and Dr. Bobby sell Dictionarys door to door. NOBODY would say "No" to Dr. Bobby when they answer the door.....They would feel TOO sorry for him. And they would buy a steel from him wither they ever played or not. I see $$$$$$$ |

Ron,I resemble your remark about my pour spelling.I would be proud to go door to door with Bobby selling anything, but that would be a lot of bs to pile on anyones' door step all at one time. lakeshrk |

Will you cash my check also? My wife, Son, and I are going to Louisville, Ky. the 1st week of July. Thought we might stop by and accompany "Your Highness". I plan to bring my Steel with us, So, Would you sit down behind my axe and play the "Pee-Wadden" out of it? Hope to see you then, O Great One. |

Guys, I think my original comment was a little bit too much of an "inside humor" kind of thing. I did not intend to belittle or demean Bobbe's character. Bobbe is intelligent, knowledgeable, and a virtual encyclopedia of music history. I have done business with him many times in the past and will continue to do so,if he will let me after this poorly worded thread. Is Bobbe an A$$H*1E? Well, just suffice it to say that I love him like a brother, just like he is!
I just cain't say it no more plainer than that!!

Remember, it's pretty hard to tell what effects the tone somewhat, but some things effect it a lot.
