Has anybody used a Roland Cube 40-GX for lap steel? I used to have a Cube 80XL but found it to be a bit of overkill for lap steel and preferred my MB200s for pedal steel. Just wondering about the cube 40. I do have a 70s Yamaha 30 watt amp with a 12 inch speaker that sounds pretty good, but no aux. input for tracks. Thanks, George

Hi George,
I have the 40 watt Cube with a 10 inch speaker. Very pristine sound on the clean channel
And a bit high ended even when you backed off the treble but very usable. I found this to be the same with the 80xl. I love the plate reverbs on the amps |

I picked up one off of Craigslist and used it for a few small gigs and rehearsals. The speaker can sound a little harsh and gets a bit fatiguing on my ears after a while. Still, a decent amp. I paid 75 bucks for it. _________________ Links to streaming music, websites, YouTube: Links |

Well, I bit the bullet today and ordered a Cube 80GX. I thought for the relatively small difference in price, the extra power might come in handy. I learned that my old Yamaha JX30 is just a 30 watt amp. OK for at home but marginal for using at Church functions. I'm playing a few songs on lap steel at a Church Christmas banquet Fri. night. I've decided to use an MB200 with a EPS 15 in a cab. [and a Black Box]. In the future, I'll likely use the Cube 80 with lap steel. For pedal steel I use two MB200s and two cabs with 15s. |
