Received via email just now from Victoria Hutter of the National Endowment for the Arts:
Quote:

2004 NEA National Heritage Fellow Charles "Chuck" Campbell with U.S. Representative Louise Slaughter and National Endowment for the Arts Chairman Dana Gioia. Mr. Campbell of Rochester, New York received his award at a Capitol Hill ceremony in Washington, D.C on September 30. He is a master of the pedal steel guitar who makes his instrument speak with a voice of praise and purpose. Congresswoman Slaughter praised him as "a force of nature."

Congratulations, Chuck.
I was priviledged to meet you and hear you play at the ISGC a couple of years ago.

It is a well deserved award.

Couldn't agree more... One of the coolest things I have heard from a steel was when Chuck was playing by himself in the Carter booth in St. Louis a couple of years ago. I was amazed at how spellbound all the listeners were that were watching him. It was like a beautiful siren singing, and we were all about to crash into the rocks...

Well deserved, his playing has huge emotion and chops.

I got to meet Chuck after a Campbell Bros. show, and he is equally classy a person as his musicianship is amazing.

Here is a youtube link that is hard to find with a search but is jaw dropping...
