I have been encouraged by another forum member to post a video of my 11 year old son playing his stage one. I bought him the stage one for his birthday in June 2014 and I don't think he has missed a day playing it. It has certainly lived up to all the good words I had read about them. He is blessed to have a great teacher in Mike McGee and is really enjoying learning to play. In this video he is playing a version of the old rugged cross that he started learning from tab then has made changes as he has learned more about his guitar.

I also have posted a video of him playing buds bounce. I wasn't playing along with him on it and he was still very new to learning it so he has some timing issues. He is playing it better now then two weeks ago when I recorded him. He doesn't like for me to record him so he won't let me do multiple takes so I get what I get and move on.LOL. I realized after the fact I sound like I'm starting a race when I say go. HA

Hey, He's coming along very well. Playing just 5 months now and already doing songs you can recognize.
Encourage him and keep up the lessons. In a couple of years he'll be a "monster player!" |

Thanks guys. Jacob was very proud and encouraged by the kind words. When he was around 8yrs old he started listening to my Jamey Johnson CD "That Lonesome Song". He would listen to it over and over except for the songs that were to adult in topic. Cowboy Eddie Longs playing really started him into wanting to play steel. I would see him playing air steel guitar at times. LOL. He also admired his now teachers playing. Finally in January of this year he said he wanted me to get him a steel and now here we are.
I promote all kinds of music but at this time all he wants to listen to is Ray, Buck, Merle, Vince, Charlie, Jamey, and Gary Carter from the Marty Stuart show. I like a lot of different music and will encourage him to listen to more genres but at this time he is focused on what he loves. Of late he is wearing out Charlie Pride live at Panther Hall, Bakersfield, and Danny Boy from the black album.
Have a great Thanksgiving all! |

I started at 11 and didn't sound nearly as good. We'll keep an eye out for him as he's sure to advance.
Take care _________________ RETIRED

Jacob, Nicely done! You already have great right and left hand technique. Keep up the good work! And Jason, that is awesome that you're exposing your son to all this wonderful music. This does my heart good! |

Very impressive! How nice to see someone of that age apply himself to such a difficult task (rather than getting lost in an i-phone!)
Congratulations, Jacob! _________________ Roger Rettig: Emmons D10, B-bender Teles, Martins, and a Gibson Super 400!

I've been fortunate enough to have met most all of the King family, they are all very talented folks.
Grandpa Max is a very talented man as is the Daddy Jason.
This young man has a very bright future in front of him.
With a wonderful family like this and a teacher like Mike McGee, you have no where to go but UP.
God bless the bunch of you all. _________________ Email: azpedalman@gmail.com
