Just listened once again for about the gazillinth time to one truly fabulous pedal steel guitarist named Clyde Mattocks.....

His "Midnight Waltz" is truly an example of pedal steel guitar at its finest. His delicate application of pedals is remarkable. It's as tasteful as was JERRY BYRD's fabulous bar slanting technique.

This tune is from his excellent CD "Over My Shoulder", the steel guitar album.

You might want to give it a listen.

I had the pleasure of hearing Clyde play when playing the same venue in N.C., a beach club that used multiple bands. He was playing his own Cherokee steel and sounded terrific. If you see this Clyde I was playing with the Copas Bros. at the time. Unfortunately I can't remember the club name or your bands name but do remember you putting on a great show.

Just saw this. It's nice to make the front page once in a while. Thanks for the nice words. Billy Tam, I do remember you with the Copas Brothers. Could it have been Cowboys in Myrtle Beach where we met? They used bands for a week at a time. My band was(still is) Super Grit Cowboy Band.

Well Clyde, your memory is better than mine. It was Cowboy"s and Super Grit Band. It was great fun but we were doing a lot of road work in those days and a lot of it is foggy and at 27 or 28 days a month they tend to run together these days.
