I got a new (to me) Sho-Bud steel that uses nylon tuners. Every Bud I've seen in the past that uses nylon tuners has 1-7/8" long, opaque white nylon tuners (Sho-Bud catalog part # 432) but this steel has shorter 7/8" long opaque nylon tuners. It seems that the changer of this steel sits nearer the endplate and calls for the shorter tuners so they don't protrude out of the endplate window too far. I think this is an 80s Sho-Bud and, of course, has the super pro style parts.

Does anyone know a source for these shorter 7/8" nylon tuners, or is anyone willing to sell a half-dozen?

I'm also looking for a half dozen of the clips that affix the tuning rod to the puller finger (# 722).

I have a large stash of those hard plastic solid white ones that are seen everywhere. I'm trying to restore this steel with the original Sho-Bud parts.

Thanks,

Bob Metzger

This may be a stupid solution to your problem but why don't you just cut them down to the length you want!

George L sells them here: http://www.georgels.com/cgi-bin/l_l/shop.cgi?product=stlacc
but they don't list 7/8". For 3/32" rods they sell 13/16", 1 1/8", and 1 1/2". For 1/8" rods they sell 5/8", 1", 1 1/8", and 1 1/2".

Thanks for the replies.

I'm trying to restore this steel with the 'original equipment'. Of course, a nylon tuner is a nylon tuner and, yes, one will work just about as good as another kind but I can always do that later if I'm not able to find the proper Sho-Bud parts. I realize that I'm being very picky and steel guitarists as a group seem to favor functionality over originality but due to my background in electric guitar restoration, where every screw and grommet is analyzed ad infinitum, I'm trying to respect the instrument in using original parts whenever possible. I appreciate your suggestions but I'm still looking for a source for the elusive opaque white 7/8" nylon tuners.
