Does anyone know right off the bat how many winds a Trap should have? Or its DC resistance?

Much appreciated,
Keith

It's all here in the forum with enough digging.

Been reading about these a lot lately, I believe it should be 10k resistance, but here are some threads so you can confirm youreself:

I know some people have had them rewound to 11k. Perhaps someone with firsthand experience will chime in.

I just had to rebuild one of mine ,make a new bobbin and rewind.
I put 10,000 turns of 42 wire it came up 8.9k a bit short the other original reads 9.8k.
Oddly enough it sound pretty close but a little fatter in tone .Here is a pic of the old collapsed bobbin and the one i made .

My D-8 trapezoid Fender measures about 11K, each pickup. The gentleman I got it from purchased it from Elderly Instruments, and who knows where it was before that... it may have been rewound at some point.

Kelvin ... just a guess, but the difference in the reading could be due to wire gauge if the originals used a thinner wire like a 43 maybe.

Mine measured 10.78K and 10.98K. Don't know about wire type, gauge, or turns?

I have no direct knowledge of these pickups, but I have wound quite a few Cherokee pickups. I suspect the variations in the readings are due to the machines that wound them were set to run a certain number of turns and cut off rather than stopping at a precise reading.

Hi Tom,the research I did said 42 gauge and 10,0000 turns but who knows ,however the interesting thing is that with the trap shape of the bobbin both original pickups were totally different .
Pickup A had the coil sitting pararell to the back if you get my meaning,in other words the coil looked like a normal coil with a big space on the slanted front .
Pickup B had the coil wound filling the whole space which is how I wound it ,a big pain to do so this means the bass strings have a bigger coil sitting over them ,my coil sound good but I am only an amateur at this ,at least its not as microphonic.Cheers
