I've been using John Pearse "New D" Weissenborn strings on my Adams flattop square neck. I play in open D and open G. I like the gauges but have never been quite satisfied with the tone. They seem to go dead pretty quickly, and I've had a couple of sets that were dead on arrival. So I've been searching for an alternative. I ran across the Curt Mangan website. I'd heard a lot of good comments about Mangan strings from guitar players and mandolin players. I found a set of heavy gauge acoustic guitar strings (.014-.058) that seemed about right for open D/G. Not many companies make heavy gauge acoustic guitar strings anymore.
This is the third day I've had the set on and I have to say I am impressed. The Adams has never sounded so good. Bright and full sounding. It's a bit premature to comment on life, but they haven't lost anything I can notice yet. I love 'em.
I searched the archives and found positive comments about their pedal steel sets, but nothing about this set, so I thought I'd mention them for anyone who hasn't found satisfactory strings for Weissenborn/acoustic slide. I have no association with Curt Mangan. I just like their strings. If my luck holds true to form, they'll probably discontinue them. Glad I bought 6 sets.

I've had these strings on for a little over two weeks now, and they haven't lost much, if any tone. I'm truly impressed.
