I recognize him as the sax player in JDs band from seeing them live a couple years back. Looks like his name is Doug Corcoran.

He's a good lap steel player. His playing is understated and tasteful. I often wonder how I should be playing lap steel; he provides the answer. In this one performance he offers a primer on comping, playing rhythm, staying out of the way of other players and tasteful leads and fills. Very nice.
