It looks like I have the D-6 Stringmaster that I wanted. Thank you Brad for giving me the "heads up" this morning on the one in California. |

Thanks Doug. I'm trying to figure out when it was made. Do the colors have anything to do with the year they were built? |

No, they were either brown or blonde for the entire run of the guitars. Also an optional black finish in the late 70s.
It's hard to tell from the pictures, but the tuners are pre-1969. And the knobs look like 1960s, not 1950s. If the Case is black it's 1960s. Tweed Case would be 1950s. A tan Case would be 1960-62. But nowadays you never know if knobs or tuners or case are original to the guitar. Especially the knobs. A lot of guitarists rob the knobs from old Fender steels and put them on their vintage Fender guitars and put new repros on the steel guitar. _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel

Doug,
Here are a couple of pics that were sent to me tonight.
The guitar has a lot of dust on it. He said that he should have dusted it off befor taking the pictures. |

The Case is post-1963. The knobs are 1960s or later (if original). The finish appears to be poly (post-1968), not nitro (earlier). Poly finishes will show scratches, as seen on your guitar, but the paint does not wear off and show bare wood nearly as much as the earlier nitro finishes did. By the early 70s Fender steels had tuners with hexagon shaped buttons. Yours has the earlier (oval) buttons, Kluson tuners. If I had to guess I'd say it's mid-60s to very early 70s. You could check the codes on the pots to see when the pots were made. Whatever year it is, it's a great steel guitar! _________________ My Site / My YouTube Channel
