I was wondering what gauge/brand strings people are using mainly on their lap steels. I bought a set of John Pearse resophonic set #3000 nickel wound G tuning strings for my 6 string lap steel. I like the bassy low strings. I want to get about as bassy as I can on my low strings. Any suggestions? |

A lap steel is basically an electric guitar, so any electric guitar strings will work.
I don't know if resonator strings will have the best magnetic properties?
There are tons of choices for lap steel: Laps Sets, Individual strings, regular Guitar string sets...
I prefer Flatwounds (Daddario Chromes)

Thanks Dom,
I am new at the electric lap steel. The one I have came with 11's on it, I guess like you said, electric guitar strings. I bought the resophonic ones because they were heavy gauge and G tuning. I am using open G on the lap steel so I thought a G set for open G. I am interested in the flat wound idea though. I'll keep experimenting until I find what I like. |

I'm using the GHS Electric Hawaiian Lap Steel "Dynamic Alloy" .013-.056 set on my National in E tuning and SIT Scotty's Non Pedal/Lap Sttel C6 set on the Gibson. .015-.036 are the guages. I'm also using Scotty's SIT eight string sets for my console.
I get my strings from JustStrings.com. |

I use Sid Hudson's live strings on all my lap builds they seem to work very well. |
