Thanks for posting that, Roger. I've always thought that he would have been a much better-known singer had he not died so terribly young at the age of 32.

He was known as "Oke" to those who knew him, and in California, he and his cousin Woody had a radio show called "The Oke and Woody Show", before Woody went off to join the Merchant Marine.

His most well-known hit was "Oklahoma Hills"...

There's an interesting story about how Woody wrote the song, but Jack changed some of the words round and recorded it while Woody was out of the country. Arlo tells the story at the Guthrie Family Reunion, which is well worth watching...
