Hello Fellow Steelers,
Just a quick note to let everyone know that I will be teaching a C6th Seminar in Phoenix again this year. The dates are January 15, 16, & 17. I've got in mind to chart out George Strait's - Your Something Special steel ride by Paul Franklin, a C6th speed picking song that should be on the westtexassteelguitarschool.com website by tomorrow nite (11/5) for you to listen to. The other item I'll be teaching is the popular Stompin at the Savoy, which is one my favorites. We'll be intermediate level or thereabouts. The price is 30.00 per person for the seminar ($5.00 goes to the Phoenix show for each student) which will include of course a tab booklet, backing track, the song track, and some explanation tracks that I've started doing for my steel schools. The last item I'll be teaching is a 5 chord to a 1 chord lick with 3 notes, which we walk down. Simple at first, then we'll change it up at least 10 times to give you lots of licks to use on the fly. This has been one of my most popular sections at my West Texas Steel School classes. Bring your steels, seats, and headphones and get geared up for 3 hours of good steelin! Let me know here on this post if possible or by email, etc so I have an idea of how many students to prepare for.
ps...I've talked to Denny, and he said he'd put me away from Buck Reids class, so there should be no conflict if you want to attend his as well. I'd probably like to drop in there myself.
Looking forward to seeing everyone again this year.
Thanks,
Larry Toliver

Well, I just put up a rough copy of the C6 Speed Pickin Licks on my website. The site is here www.westtexassteelguitarschool.com/Audio_and_Video_Clips.html
Look under the C6 Speed pickin lick. This will be one of the sections taught at the Phoenix Show Seminar. By the way, this is about half speed. If you like it....let me know. I thought of some minimal pedal licks, plus a few bar movement licks, and staying with some repeat patterns when designing this song.
Thanks,
Larry Toliver
ps..feel free to let me know if you would like to come to the class. |

I've had 3 or 4 steelers email me and say they are coming. This is great, and I look forward to being there. If anyone has any questions or "want to's" for the class....then let me know and I'll try to accommodate. See ya'll there.

Everything is lining up well and I'm about geared up and ready for the show. My son Kacey will be there with me as well. He is an excellent singer and lead guitar picker. Hope to see you there and in the class as well. Not too late for last minute requests for the class.

Just wanted to say thanks again to Billy, Denny, and the whole crew for allowing me to teach again this year. I am already looking forward to next year's show. Denny, thanks for all your help getting me setup for the class. The Phoenix show is the best.

Larry, you are so very welcome. It’s always a pleasure having you at our show. I again heard positive feedback from your C6 class. Thanks for devoting your time for that.
Your show set was awesome! And your son, Kacey, just keeps getting better every year, vocally as well as pickin’ lead guitar. I’m already looking forward to visiting with you and listening to you and Kacey at next year’s show!! |
