Looking to buy a classical or nylon string guitar with a pickup. Any suggestions? Something decent and not cheap.
Thanks,

Have you checked out one of the Chet Atkins models? |

If your looking for a good utility instrument for a decent price, its hard to beat the Ibanez AEG10NE. Its a cutaway with the standard scale neck. Went to see Ray Price several years ago and his guitar player was using one.

Ooops! Sorry I didn't see the not cheap comment. If money is no object get a Sands or better yet find a Gibson Studio Classic.

I enjoy playing classical guitar. Fingertips are more expressive than plectrum to me and nylon strings add a warmth you just can't get from steel strings.

Ive had this Gibson CE for years. It sounds really wonderful amplified. The CEC model has a wider 2" nut. Highly recommended! |

The Martin N-20 is also a great classical guitar. Willie Nelson plays his Martin N-20 "Trigger" that Shot Jackson installed pickups on in 1969. I'm not a classical guitarist, but I've heard one of Chet Atkins' favorite guitars was his nylon string guitar he'd played |

When it comes to handmade classical guitars, the sky's the limit. The world is full of luthiers making excellent instruments.
Most luthiers, however, don't put electronic gadgetry on their guitars. The fact that you specified a pickup means that you're in the market for a factory-made instrument, and the ones sold by Musician's Friend, as Andy mentions, are as good as any.
I myself have big hands, and I find the narrow fingerboards of steel-strung guitars very confining, so I often use a classical guitar with a pickup even when playing rockabilly. I wish someone made a 7-string version though, as the low B string is very useful.
As a luthier myself I could build one, but I've always steered clear of building guitars, since everyone else does, and there are a lot better luthiers around than I am. |

Thanks for the input and suggestions. The Martin 000c should get me started with the feel for the nylon string and if I get proficient at it I can look at other models.
Anyway, it was generous of my wife to order the Martin for a Christmas present.

I am really enjoying Godin guitars of late. I bought an electric (LGXT) last year after exchanging a few emails with Richard at RMC who designed their piezos.
I was seriously impressed with the build quality of this guitar and surprised that I hadn't heard more about them in my travels.
This encouraged me a few months back to invest in a Godin AC-SA slimline nylon guitar. It is far and away the best nylon I've played.
My primary use is in the studio so YMMV if you are looking for a "parlour" instrument.
It should also be noted that I play mostly electric guitar and appreciate the neck profile on this instrument... Sweet ride.
