Rick I'll take a swing at your question.
1. Economy (I see the same thing in the high-end banjo market on the Banjo Hangout Forum).
2. Over saturation. If you look at "the modern" guitar market. Many great builders out there, along with the old standbys coming up for sale ie:Sho-Buds and others.
3. Our demographics for our steel community indicated aging, therefore fixed incomes becoming the norm.
The majority of movement in the used market comes form people flipping and/or speculating on the guitar market that have a nice cash reserve, similar to the housing market.
Too many time you read, "if I only had the money".

Rick,
I felt VERY lucky to have purchased both of my ETS steels at the price you are asking.
I had to do a bit of haggling to get to that price too.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but the guitar new cost near $2000.
Even though the company is not producing guitars presently due to the tragic death of Larry Agan, one of the partners, parts and set-ups are available thru the great Bud Carter himself. He did a great set-up on both of my ETS guitars for a very fair price. Al Brisco in Canada is available also. They are built very well. I just wanted my copedant changed and a few tweaks as I am not much of a mechanic.
I've owned and played 2 other popular brands of light weight 3x5's before I settled on the ETS.
They were all wonderful instruments but the features and tones and quality of this guitar just spoke to me.
I see in your profile that you also play a Stage One. I'm wondering why you decided to sell one over the other. The Stage One has a fixed copedent with a few less features in the long run (no offense to any Stage One owners, it too is a great guitar).
Maybe something's telling you to think again.
Anyway, maybe it's the season or the way the wind is blowing. Someone should soon take you up on this fine steel.

Raymond, besides The Stage One having a fixed copedent what other fewer features does it have compared the ETS in the long run ?
Stage One S-10 3 +4 costs $1049 compared to ETS (about $2000) Could be a factor for some of us, particularly new players.
Stage One has adjustable legs; Don't know if ETS does.
The guitar is light but does not dance on the floor when levers are engaged.
Choice of two different pickups.
Perhaps subjective but the Stage One tone is very clear. A good number of owners use them for gigging.
42 lbs in very strong wooden case. I don't know weight for the ETS.
I'm sure they are both are excellent steels but I am happy Doug Earnest has put one on the market which is both excellent and extremely affordable.
Also he know sells the Encore, which has a changeable copedant, for $1499 for a 3 + 5. An extra pedal for the Encore costs $80.
