I didn't buy this K&F (Kauffman & Fender; pre-Fender) lap steel to flip or as an investment, but Life has its own ideas.
Original pickup rebuilt by Jason Lollar. I discovered this last summer and it looks like it was played early on, then left in the original gig bag (needs some stitching here and there--handle has been fixed) until this century. Meanwhile the pickup collapsed, as these tend to do.
Ron Lira (Honest Ron's Guitars, Oklahoma City) loosened up the pots and reinstalled the revived pickup. Primitive cool sound, although not as instantly sophisticated as early Rickenbackers. In any case, a great piece of musical history from 1946. This is the deluxe model (metal fretboard and jack input; serial number 734 --late in the run that's generally assumed to be 1000 K&F instruments. Collector/expert John Sprung has never seen a serial number past the high-800s.) I'll ship this in a 50s-ish hsc (not the one in the pics) for $900 in the lower 48. PayPal, postal m.o.'s, cash in person (discount if no shipping is involved) are fine. I've dropped the price for the Forum rather than owe a limb, a mortgage and a first-born child to eBay.
The Price Guide value (lower in the last few years) on these runs toward $1500-1800. Just sayin'...
