A few more gigs under my belt with the Quilter Steelaire so I thought an update would be good. I don't think there is anything wrong with my amp, I decided not to send it back to Quilter. Truth be told I cant part with it…. It really is an incredible sounding amp and has been plenty loud enough. I think that the issues I was having had more to do with the rooms I was in. I am amazed with how much like a tube amp it sounds. Quilter really nailed this. I've been using my carbon copy delay in the effects loop, and it sounds great. The reverb is also great. I'm no expert on steel guitar gear, but I am a tube amp snob, and my Fender twin hasn't left my house since I got the Quilter, so that says something…. It also take the Sarno earth drive really well. Sounds like an overdriven tube amp...

Yes, good to hear. The combination in that amp of the Eminence EPS-15C and the Steelaire amp is awesome.

From the Quilter web site:

Quote:
The speaker is the result of a lengthy collaboration between Pat Quilter and Eminence Speakers. We started with Eminence's rugged cast-frame 15 inch platform for maximum durability. To this we added a 3-inch aluminum voice coil and hyperbolic cone to assure outstanding frequency response, power handling, and freedom from breakup. As a finishing touch, a 4 inch aluminum dome adds a hint of sweet metallic tang, resulting in a creamy full bodied tone with a citrus-y finish.

Karen, how does your push/pull sound through the Quilter as compared to your Jackson through the Quilter? Is the Emmons extra bright with that amp? Do you have to make EQ adjustments depending on which guitar you use? Or does one setting fit both guitars, in your opinion. Inquiring minds want to know!

So, you never compared it to the volume of your Twin when both were sitting in the same room at home?
They should be the same volume with the Quilter staying cleaner when both are at louder settings.

I played a show at an Opry in Corsicana TX Saturday night and thought about you Karen. It's a big room and we don't mic the amps. The Quilter sounded great with more than enough headroom.

I had a new steel guitarist come up when we took a break and want to know what kind of amp I was using because he thought it sounded better than his Nashville 400.

Glad to hear you feel there's no issue after all.
