The 12 inch Valve King speaker that the mouse ate has to be replaced. I can get a new one for $79.95, including shipping. I may be wrong, but wouldn't it be just as cheap to get a new one instead of getting this one re-coned? By the time I pay the shipping both ways and the re-coning cost, seems like a bad idea to re-cone it. I think re-coning is only feasible on expensive speakers or vintage speakers that are no longer made. Am I right or wrong? Anybody know a place or a guy that re-cones that I could check with?

thanks

I suspect you're right, but phone calls are cheap.

Peavey sells replacement baskets for some of their speakers separately. 'Antique Electronic Supply' may carry them.

Thanks for the information, guys. I will check into it a bit more. If I have to get a new speaker, I think I will go with a Telonics. The Valve King stock speaker was never designed for steel guitar anyway. More money for the Telonics, but you get what you pay for. I feel like I may be throwing good money after bad to replace the stock speaker.

David Halford at Halford Loudspeakers 2160 Young Ave
Memphis, Tennessee
(901) 207-6884
David, who was the main speaker repairman at Speaker Services for years, now has his own shop. He has been the best speaker go to guy in the Midsouth for years.
Very honest. Tell him what you've got, and he will tell you whether it's worth it to have it reconed. He has been taking care of me for ages. Like they said, "a phone call is cheap."

+ 1 for Halford Loudspeakers. David has reconed several speakers for me and this guy is a pro.

It is not feasible to get the speaker re-coned. It will cost $65.00 to $75.00 plus shipping both ways. A new speaker, including shipping, is $79.95.

Thanks for the help, just the same.
